May is Haitian Heritage Month!

Check out these Flag Day events happening in the coming week:

  • Cambridge Public Library O'Neill Branch: Rise Up! / Levé!: Celebrating the Haitian Revolution of 1804 - Friday, May 16 at 4:30pm
    Join us to celebrate Haiti's people, culture and history at the O'Neill Branch Library with local organization, Wee the People. We will celebrate one of Haiti's biggest national holidays -- Haitian Flag Day -- and explore the slave revolt that defeated Europe's most powerful armies. Families with children ages 5 and up will make Haitian Hero Shields with the colors of the Haitian flag. No registration required.

  • Haitian Flag Festival at Somerville City Hall - Satuday, May 16 from 2:00 - 6:00pm
    The Haitian Flag Festival is a dynamic, family-friendly event that honors the Haitian flag as a symbol of unity and resilience. The celebration will feature:
    • Live music and cultural performances
    • Authentic Haitian cuisine and refreshments
    • Art and craft exhibit from local and Haitian artists
    • Educational booths highlighting the history and significance of the Haitian flag

  • Haitian Flag Day Celebration at Andrews Middle School in Medford - Sunday, May 18 from 3-6pm
    Includes performances, music, good food, and more. Dr. Linda Marc, a social epidemiologist and public health practitioner also joins us for a guest speech.

  • Haitian Heritage Month: Free Film Screening & Discussion of 1804 at the Medford Public Library - Monday, May 19 from 5:30 - 8:45pm
    After the film screening, join us for a thought-provoking conversation that raises awareness, amplifies knowledge, and strengthens community connections. Led by Dr. Kyera Singleton, Executive Director of Royall House and Slave Quarters, and Georgiana Chevry, CEO of DiamondTale Consulting and Founder of Haitian Heritage Month, this discussion explores Haiti’s impact, history, and its cultural ties to Medford.
