Commented their teacher, Samantha Armistead: After a period of building, researching, and planning in December, "when the students returned from winter break, we bonded by planting the plants together and talking about our days away from school. As the plants first started to grow, we began our light waves unit in class. Having tangible evidence for the power of light lent weight to the scientific points I made as an educator and also helped us all get through the snowy days with greenery in the classroom. Students wrote about photosynthesis years before the state level curriculum anticipates because they were motivated by the plants in their space. They actively sought to learn more... They enjoyed tasting the edible flowers and peas that we grew, but the experience of the process was the most memorable part."
