Prospect Hill Academy Charter School’s (PHA) varsity girls volleyball team won their first ever MCSAO (Massachusetts Charter School Athletic Organization) championship this past Saturday, November 29, 3-0 over Pioneer Charter School of Science II. Senior Trisha Exantus was chosen as the Division’s Most Valuable Player and Senior Mia Morris, Senior Angie Casseus, and Junior Lydia Martins were all selected to the MCSAO all-star team. The season is not done yet, as the girls head to Georgetown High School on Wednesday, November 2, at 5:00 p.m. for a preliminary round matchup in the MIAA playoffs.

In the winter of 2021, with typical club activities and community outreach on hold due to COVID, the Cambridge Plant & Garden Club (CP&GC) looked for novel ways to engage with the community and, specifically, with local students remotely, during the winter pandemic lockdown. A partnership was forged between Ms. Holmes, CP&GC, and the Prospect Hill Academy (PHA), one of the oldest and largest charter schools operating in Massachusetts.

In celebration of Black History Month, renowned artist and award-winning children’s book illustrator Ekua Holmes hosted over 30 Prospect Hill Academy Charter School (PHA) families for an interactive virtual workshop on Thursday, February 10.

An article about the Science Club for Girls summer rocket program for girls in the Boston-area to explore STEM learning opportunities over the summer. Rising PHA 10th grader and teacher/mentor for the program Tamar E. is quoted:
“I really like the community — I have so much in common with these girls. We all like science obviously, and are super positive, sweet, and kind.”

Nationally, the total number of FAFSA completions by the class of 2021 is down 6.7% compared with the same time last year. This number is even higher among other Title 1 schools like PHA. However, thanks to the efforts of our phenomenal college counseling team, PHA's FAFSA completion rate has actually gone up by 7%. FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is a form used to apply for college financial aid and is often seen as a predictor of future college enrollment.
