Walking into the PHA High School Learning Commons on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 18th, you would have witnessed students and teachers huddled in groups, deeply engaged in conversation. However, what you saw was not a high school class but an intensive professional development session for teachers, built around gathering our students’ thoughts, ideas, and experiences and actionably embedding their input into our teachers’ instructional plans for the school year.

At PHA, we prioritize hands-on learning experiences that foster deep engagement and critical thinking, bringing the classroom curriculum to life for our students. Last December, thanks to a grant from the Whole Kids Foundation, our sixth grade experienced this type of deeper learning as they worked collaboratively to get two grant-funded Lettuce Grow vertical farmstands up and running, learning and building stronger relationships along the way.

Our students are loving their new PUMA backpacks, courtesy of the Kiwanis Club of Somerville and their annual backpack and school supply drive. We are grateful for their continued generous support of our students each year through the drive.

STEAM Saturday online registration for the Fall 2024 session is now open! STEAM Saturday is an exciting opportunity for our students in grades K-8 to learn outside of the traditional classroom. Students will engage in hands-on learning activities like LEGO Robotics, engineering, YouTube production, cooking, and more! Fall 2024 Dates: October 12, October 19, October 26, November 2
